Creating a resume is a humiliation ritual.
Protect your self worth with this exercise.
In my work I explore deeply tangled psychic threads in my clients and in myself. One interesting knot is the one where self-worth, money + career intersect. The work we do and the money we have or don’t have can impact what we believe we are worth. This is why the question “What do you do?” can feel so existential. It’s really a question of identity, status and location in the system.
A resume is not typically treated as a tool for genuine self-expression. It’s self-erasure dressed up as professionalism. You take a living, complex person and flatten them into what the desired system can tolerate.
If you’ve ever created a resume or applied for a job while in financial stress you know the ways you’re willing to contort or present yourself to be chosen. And honestly, that’s survival. It’s like that sometimes. No shade. But know this, unless you separate your worth from your job title you are unconsciously training your nervous system to associate money with external approval, hierarchy, being evaluated +shaping yourself to fit someone else’s need.
Protect Your Self Worth
If you’re someone who has been trained to undervalue yourself you may have blind-spots in your self-perception that don’t allow you to see the value you bring. When I work with clients who struggle with feeling confident in their skills I challenge them to take an internal accounting of the following:
Effects of their applied Focus
Effects of their applied Love
What this trains the mind to do is connect with what happens in reality when you pour your energy into a thing…in a concrete way. Here are some reflections that can help you see the impact you are actually making in your world right now.
✍️ What have I helped grow just by paying attention?
✍️ What gets better when I spend time on it?
✍️ What do others trust me with, even if it’s never been a job title?
✍️ What parts of who I am don’t fit into bullet points?
✍️ What value do I bring that no one ever taught me to name?
✍️ Where have I been told my impact “doesn’t count” because it wasn’t officiated by someone else?
Ready To Go Deeper?
I am looking for the ambitious misfits, passionate disruptors + visionaries who dream of building a healthy interconnected world. My expertise is designing effective, nervous system honoring business + creative strategies. If you’re feeling stuck in your process let’s talk about getting you unstuck ⬇️
