Death of the Obedient Daughter | A Eulogy
Here lies the goodest girl.
Beloved for her endurance.
Famous for her utility.
Undone by her innocence.
May her lifelessness rot in the souls of her tormentors
Until their lies become the truth.
Once upon a time the good daughter had bright hopeful eyes. She believed most people were good, meant well and did the “right” things. Then she woke up to reality. And she woke up again. And again. And again. As her consciousness grew she began to have questions, comments and concerns about the patriarchal nightmare she had been taught to call a dream.
Unable to survive the brutality of reality. She died. Yep. Died.
Now she is no longer the bright-eyed believer of fairy tales.
Now she is no longer self-sacrificial and seeking approval.
She wants a refund. And she will have it.
She formally resigns from earning her existence, “paying for her sins”, or any other bullshit notions that the world’s suffering is a debt she’s personally responsible for.
From now on she will eat the last wing. She will wear the dress. She will say the thing.
And she will stop pretending she was made to co-star in her own life.
