Symbols are containers for information. They allow us to compress complicated histories, patterns, emotions, and experiences into a single image that can be retrieved from the collective consciousness. You don’t need a twenty-page explanation of a siren to understand what she represents; the symbol carries the story with it. This is why I use archetypes in my spiritual practice. By placing different symbols over the same experience, I can rotate it in my mind like an object and see dimensions of it that were previously hidden.
